After having thought it over, I do have a few theories: The first being that aie, despite being called Anon, isn't actually trying to be a direct self-insert as much as hie; so he ends up just naturally being less obnoxious.
Second theory could just be that Anon himself is more of a character than a blank slate, so there's more to work off of from the get-go, and making it less of an uphill battle for writers.
Third and final theory, is that hie usually just requires more lore to work, so writers end up focusing too much on that, and not enough on their human characters, causing them to come off as awkward (much like my shitty writing).
