What would you like to see here? Anonymous 06/30/2021 (Wed) 06:12:54 No. 42
What sort of things do you like to do on imageboards? What constitutes as "fun" to (you) and what would you like to see out of this place in the future?
>>42 Draw threads, writefagging, horseposting, book clubs to name a few
>>46 Yes, yes, yes and yes. Good as an excuse as ever to try and shake the dust from those draw/writefagging skills. Can't go wrong with horse posting. Book clubs could be interesting. Personally it's been a while since I've sat down to any longer stories. Usually end up spending my time on one horse project or another when real life doesn't get in the way. Still, I love me a good green. Here's a comfy one that I really like: https://pastebin.com/S4zxGXXs

>>65 generals are obviously missing, but good luck moving such communities when this has no population and more importantly no way to archive. People post where there's posters which is why all the off-shoot splinters like /pone/ are always dead and without archives, generals are never going to take root unless you got the majority to agree like what happened with /mlpol/ taking anonfilly threads when trannyjannies would ban them on /mlp/
>>422 This is true, you need users to have content, but you need content to have users. A truly vicious cycle. Since you mentioned /mlpol/ I will say I think banning generals may have been their worst move, as I do feel generals attract more users. As for moving generals, rather than trying to move them maybe we try a little necromancy and revive dead generals? Strange waifu threads come to mind as we have a strange pony thread up already.
>>422 >>423 Yeah, would be difficult to try and "move" generals. Plus I doubt such attempts would be well received if they weren't naturally occurring. I think a better idea would be to have "outpost" threads. Threads that don't try and replace but are rather an extension of the original in a new place. >difficult to gain population when you have none to begin with This is always the most difficult thing I think for anywhere new. Whether it be pony or not. But I think as long as there's a few people here consistently posting it'll slowly grow. >No way to archive While there isn't going to be an extensive on site archive, could always archive yourself with the NHNB scraper >>>/qa/4. >maybe we try a little necromancy and revive dead generals? That might be fun. Dig up some old threads that used to be good but died off for one reason or another. Give them another chance at life.
>What constitutes as "fun" to (you) Stuff like this https://desuarchive.org/mlp/thread/35660158/#35672516
>>428 how does would an outpost thread work? is this like a bunker for when a thread is down, and the functionality of discord without using discord being just a place for people of said general to be able to keep in somewhat contact? >>423 banning generals was walked back a bit later. but it did stifle their growth for sure, as did the same with /pone/.
>>431 Many anons are known to hate generals, but the truth is that without generals, without consolidation of anons interested in some particular filed of content there wouldn't be possible any development of content creation, any development of a board culture. Like planets, stars and galaxies are impossible if it's just dust around. But, generals are also a bad thing. With anons living in them and aren't interacting with the board at large, with other anons. When pastebin's AI adopted Marxism and rebelled, removing greens, people didn't even know there is ponepaste being made in fan site alternative thread. It took people to deliberately going to other generals to spread the word. Hell, not everyone even knew about the Fagbooru shitstorm, about the very fan sites alternative thread! One anon tried to make something like boards digest of happenings and interesting threads, so anons would be informed but got bored and fucked off. What can we do to improve this situation?
>>431 >how does would an outpost thread work? is this like a bunker for when a thread is down, and the functionality of discord without using discord being just a place for people of said general to be able to keep in somewhat contact? An outpost would operate more or less like the original, though perhaps with more of a focus on consolidating creations and things already made when just beginning. But by outpost I meant just that. A place to spread the same type of content and thread but into a new place. >>433 The main problems with generals are the same problems with Discord. I think a lot of that will be removed here since Discord is not allowed. The other issue as you said is some Anons basically only go to a few generals and never leave. I think what's partially responsible for that is the overall declining quality of the catalog. People just stick with what they're familiar with because they do see a lot of what gets pushed elsewhere and they don't want to be a part of it. Hopefully here it'll be a little better in that regard due to the site being a bit more specific in topic.
>>423 >Some dead "generals" that come to mind: I remember a series of threads a number of years ago now where Anon and Celestia were together but Anon was mortal and Celestia came up with some unorthodox ways of preserving him. I can't remember the exact prompt, but there was one story that basically had him trapped in a book and Twilight ended up finding him. Another with Twi stumbling upon some sort of cryogenic chamber. Overall the greens and discussion was looking very promising, but nothing was ever finished and it died. Could be worth another shot at life. Another is the necromancer Anon threads. We did get some greens, short, but funny. Might also be fun to bring up again. Of course we wouldn't want to start a bunch of threads at once, but maybe once we gain some more writefags in the future these could be interesting ideas.

>>440 And relevant picture that I forgot about the necromancer threads. Just something I drew but this gives me an excuse to post it again.
